talking (and writing) proper

I have to do a Creative Writing lecture which will attempt to persuade students that "grammar", "spelling" and "style" are useful and interesting concepts. A revolutionary idea, I realise, but there it is. I dodn't want to talk for 45 minutes on gerunds and predicates. If anyone has anything i can use to make it interesting - exam howlers, mistakes, confusions, preferably amusing although interesting would be fine too. Two examples to start you off; a student who throughout a 10,000 word project repeatedly confused "scatology" with "eschatology"; and another student who wrote several pages on "The state of Christianity in 400BC" (think about it). All contributions gratefully received, acknowledged, and it you want a copy of the lecture when it's done, I'll happily send it to you. Thanks.
