It was reported to the Governing Board on Friday that Armageddon Priory and Park have been bequeathed to the University. The estate includes the Priory (interior by Robert Adam), the 6 bedroom Gatehouse (recently modernised), the C16 half timbered Dovecote and the 27 acre park with its lake and a grove of fascinating topiary. Included in the bequest is the first Lord Strudwick's small collection of early Benedictine manuscripts, fans and some Japanese Samurai armour. The Priory is less than four miles from the main University site in the city. It has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a covenant restricting the use of the whole estate to educational purposes. Members of the Board were informed that proposals for use would be coming forward from the Director of Estates at the next meeting. Suggestions for use are also welcome from any member of the University.
