The University appointed a professor who, they knew, had been accused of misrepresenting the evidence in a large proportion of his work. The accusation was made a decade ago, and they may have thought it was forgotten. The future professor has continued to publish the same books using the same misrepresented evidence. However the paper making the accusation is still standard reading in many universities around the world for some subjects. A campaign using the Internet has made most members of the university aware of this. It has given senior staff copies of the paper. Staff are quite aware that, now the scandal has hit the Internet, it will go worldwide. They are worried that their reputations will be affected by the fact that their university knowingly appointed someone who has misrepresented all the key facts and many others in his best known work.

I have endured much in my time here as where graffiti is concerned. My parentage has been called into question - as has the intelligence of my Academics. My assassination has been called for - as has that of whole Departments - Faculties even. All this I take with good grace and simply call in the sand-blasters. But, one of you has gone too far. One of you has been spraying R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-I-L-I-T-Y everywhere. That sort of thing will not be tolerated in this University. You will be caught and you will be sent down. No one puts the fear of God into Armageddon but me. Yours truly, The Dean.
