All HEIs in the UK are now committed to preparing and updating supervisors for their task. This seminar, first launched over 25 years ago, has become the prototype for much supervisory training in the UK. We provide those new to supervision, more experienced supervisors, and deans and administrators who have responsibility for ensuring supervisors are prepared for the task, an opportunity to examine and share experience of good and bad practice.
Participants will have access to the archive of diaries of candidates' accounts of supervision, examination and vivas and their experience of complaints, appeals and litigation. All materials provided can be copied and used in in-house training sessions for postgraduate students and their supervisors.
Participants are invited to share topics and problems of interest to their institution. You are invited to join a small group to discuss a new way of addressing one of the most intractable issues for institutions: improving the qualification rate of their doctoral programmes.
